Which Social Media Platform is Best for your Brand?

Choosing the right platform for your business relies on a number of factors, from your type of business to your desired audience and the goals you’re trying to achieve.  In order to create a successful strategy, you have to know which platforms are best for your desired outcome.

TWITTER

Twitter relies on relevant hashtags and trending news, so the correct tags can make or break your strategy.  It’s good practice to choose a custom hashtag specific to your brand and include it in each of your tweets.  This is the ideal platform for sharing brand updates and being a part of the conversation surrounding your industry.  The Twitter audience tends to be a bit younger, so keep the age of your target customer in mind.

FACEBOOK

From an advertising perspective, Facebook is possibly the easiest platform to manage, and Facebook Ads allow you to push your message out to a wider audience.  Unless you’re marketing specifically to teenagers, you will likely reach your target customer here.  If you are a retail business, Facebook allows you to sell directly from your page, and the messenger feature allows you to engage with your customer as they are making their purchasing decisions.

TUMBLR

The Tumblr platform is often overlooked completely.  If your brand focuses on art or photography, this may be the best fit for you.  They key to a successful Tumblr campaign is knowing your audience.  Your content needs to be creative, funny, artistic, and modern.  If your audience isn’t up to date on the latest memes and gifs, this most likely isn’t the platform for you.

INSTAGRAM

Instagram’s target audience is under 30, and there are significantly more female users here, so that’s certainly a factor to consider when choosing your platform.  Focusing on images and video, this is a great tool for visually appealing brands.  Since Instagram doesn’t allow clickable links in their posts, this is a great platform for brand building.  Instagram relies extremely heavily on hashtags so your followers are able to post directly to an event or location, giving them an added incentive to follow you.

LINKEDIN

LinkedIn is more of a BtoB platform.  Users are able to post job openings, share industry relevant news and articles, and spread the word about networking opportunities. This is an ideal platform if your goal is to drive engagement with influencers and decision makers both in your industry and in industries you want to target.
