“SMART” Technology … Changing Our Lives

Practical uses of technology in our daily life is growing by leaps and bounds. Perhaps, the biggest change within the past ten years has been the advent of ““SMART”” everything. Technically, ““SMART”” is an acronym that means “Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound”. However, more recently ““SMART”” has come to refer to anything that contains artificial intelligence, or anything that reacts to triggers in its environment and simulates cognitive function. Today, we have “SMART” phones, “SMART” watches, “SMART” speakers, and even “SMART” showers and toilets! “SMART” technology is infiltrating every aspect of our daily world at home and at work.

The “SMART” phone has been around for quite some time now, but the real turning point was when Apple added “Siri”. Today, users interact with “Siri” (a personal AI assistant) asking all kinds of questions daily. In addition to “Siri”, we have Alexa, Google Assistant, and a multitude of other robots that cater to us on various devices.

“SMART” home devices are not reserved for the wealthy, can be planned and implemented safely to prevent unwanted break-ins. “SMART” homes are generally cost effective and can be implemented in phases. Properly thought through and planned a “SMART” home makes a huge difference for a family navigating everyday lifestyle demands or the special needs of disabled and elderly family members. “SMART” technology can help reduce the hours a live-in nurse is required or help to free up time for a family caretaker. “SMART” technology is capable to assist in many ways depending on specific lifestyle needs.

The uses for “SMART” technology are endless, and is only expanding. It is not so far off that every new home buyer will expect a fully functional “SMART” home. In fact, it is our believe that they will choose not to purchase or expect a lower price when the presence of AI in the home does not exist.
