01 Context
James M. Porfido is a Morris County criminal defense attorney and a former leader within the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. He has been a New Jersey Supreme Court Certified Criminal Trial Attorney since 1995, a distinction held by fewer than 2% of attorneys in the state. In a field where clients are making the highest-stakes decision of their lives, that credential is the whole value proposition.
His old site reflected none of it. It carried an unconfigured page title, no practice-area pages, and no location targeting, and it sat under the brand of Einhorn, Barbarito, Frost & Botwinick, the firm where James is of counsel. He wanted an identity of his own: a presence under the Porfido Law name where he could clearly present his practice and the clients he counsels and refers, rather than being folded into a larger firm’s page. The brief was a one-time rebuild to establish that independent authority, and a proving ground for the SEO, AIO, and AEO retainer to follow.
02 The challenge
The old site worked against itself: no schema, no practice-area depth, no local targeting, a dated layout, and inconsistent contact details. None of it was built for how people find a defense attorney today. That search is specific. Someone facing a charge searches under stress, usually on a phone, with two things in mind: the exact charge and the court that will hear it. A site that speaks only in general terms about “criminal defense” is invisible to them.
There was also a newer demand. AI answer engines increasingly shape the first read on a legal question, and they reward sites that are clearly structured and rich in question-and-answer content. The build had to satisfy anxious readers and AI engines at once, in just over six weeks.
03 Approach
We led with two axes of the AXIS Model: Identity, so the site looked as credible as James’s standing in a courtroom, and Impact, so it converted visitors and stood up as the technical base for the SEO retainer to come. The design was already approved as an AI-generated prototype, so we replicated it precisely rather than reopening exploration, and built on a template-driven architecture. Reusable components for practice-area, location, and court pages meant 42 pages did not take 42 times the work. Content was AI-drafted per charge and town, then reviewed for accuracy.
04 What we shipped
A complete 42-page architecture. Homepage, five core pages, 17 practice-area pages (DUI/DWI through federal crimes, expungements, and appeals), 15 location pages across northern New Jersey, and four court-specific pages for the venues James appears in.
An SEO-first foundation. Optimized meta titles and descriptions, schema markup (Attorney, LocalBusiness, FAQ), XML sitemap, and robots.txt, built in from the start, with internal linking that connects charges to courts to locations.
A conversion system on every page. Click-to-call, contact forms, and clear CTAs throughout, with a confidential-review request promising a callback within the hour, and the credentials that reassure visitors kept front and center.
An AI-ready content layer. A direct, citable FAQ section in the question-and-answer format AI Overviews favor, covering arrests, NJ certification, expungement eligibility, and cost.
Media and social, integrated. A home for James’s podcast, “The Trial Attorney’s Notebook,” featured on the homepage, plus short-form video and linked social profiles.
Built for what’s next. WordPress on the client’s existing SiteGround hosting, mobile-first, with analytics and Search Console integration and Google Business Profile verification support, ready to measure from day one.
05 Results
This was a one-time build, so the deliverable is the asset itself: a complete, search-ready platform shipped on schedule to a retainer-winning standard.

Beyond the page count: a standalone Porfido Law brand, schema and a clean technical foundation where there had been none, a conversion path on every page, an AEO-ready FAQ layer, and podcast, video, and social fully integrated, all organized around how clients actually search, by charge and by court.
06 Reflection
The real unlock was ownership. James moved from a diluted profile inside another firm’s brand to a presence that matches his standing, structured around the charges he defends and the courts he knows. It is also a beginning: the foundation for the SEO, AIO, and AEO program to follow, where rankings, traffic, and lead metrics will be the story. What this engagement delivered is what all of that depends on, a fast, credible, search-ready platform that earns trust from both a worried client and the algorithms deciding who gets found.
